I recently had an unforgettable wildlife encounter on Vancouver Island that felt like stepping into a National Geographic documentary. In the Footsteps of the First Nations
Our guides, Cassie and Guy, were members of the Homalco First Nation, known as the 'people of the fast-running waters'. Their territory encompasses the stunning landscapes we explored, from Campbell River to Orford Bay. As we ventured into their homeland, we witnessed a bear cub playing on a grassy hill, followed by its mother, a moment of pure wilderness that left us in awe.

The Grizzly Bear Hunt
As we ventured deeper into the Homalco territory, we witnessed the grizzly bears in their natural habitat. The rivers were teeming with salmon, providing a feast for the bears as they prepared for hibernation. We watched in amazement as a mother bear and her cub lazily caught salmon, just a few meters away from our viewing platform. It was a rare and intimate glimpse into the lives of these majestic creatures.

During our tour, we had the privilege of seeing nine grizzly bears, a record for the guides.
